A shared definition of quality
Published criteria for question fidelity, answer fidelity, completeness, terminology, register, speaker agency, ethics, and appropriate technology use.
The Baseball Language Institute is developing independent standards, research, training, certification, and responsible technology for multilingual communication in baseball.
Players, coaches, journalists, clubs, and fans depend on interpreters every day. BLI is building baseball-specific infrastructure for accuracy, completeness, speaker agency, professional development, and responsible AI-assisted quality assurance.

Media, clubhouse, scouting, player-development, analytics, and baseball-terminology instruction designed around the situations interpreters actually face.
Repeatable audits, public methodology, aggregate reporting, and research into where meaning is lost—and how communication systems can improve.
The BLI Standard for Baseball Interpretation is being developed as a transparent, versioned framework. Its purpose is not to rank personalities. It is to measure communication outcomes.
Core fidelity dimensions
“Judge the call, not the person.”
Interpreter Umpire™ is BLI’s developing quality-assurance methodology. The unit of analysis is the interpretation event—not an interpreter’s identity or reputation.
BLI’s proposed professional credential separates education from assessment. Completing a course will not automatically mean certification; candidates must demonstrate baseball knowledge and interpreting competency under practical conditions.
Language-pair endorsements are planned for Japanese ↔ English, Korean ↔ English, and Spanish ↔ English, with additional languages added as qualified examiners and demand support them.
Status: certification framework in development. No BLI professional certifications have yet been issued.
BLI’s pilot research program studies public multilingual baseball communication to identify repeatable failure modes, successful practices, and measurable opportunities for improvement.
A structured review of public press-conference and media interpretation using a consistent framework for question transmission, answer fidelity, omissions, additions, pragmatic meaning, terminology, and speaker agency.
Research, case studies, terminology resources, methodology notes, and long-form work on multilingual baseball communication.
A future annual report aggregating findings across languages, leagues, situations, and communication systems.
BLI is exploring human-in-the-loop technology for transcript alignment, semantic comparison, terminology preparation, omission detection, discrepancy review, and post-event quality assurance.
AI can surface differences and patterns. Qualified humans remain responsible for contextual evaluation, interpretation ethics, and final conclusions.
InterpreterOS technology can support experimental auditing workflows while BLI develops independent standards, validation procedures, and governance.
Which AI interventions reduce omissions? Which create new errors? What should happen in real time versus post-event review? BLI intends to test rather than assume.
BLI welcomes conversations with organizations and professionals interested in developing rigorous, practical multilingual communication standards for the sport.
We are developing pilot research, governance, standards, and training architecture and welcome conversations with baseball, interpreting, academic, and technology partners.
